Senior Adult Ministry

Seniors Ministry at Mount Vernon is promoted and coordinated by the Seniors Ministry Team, a ministry team of the Session. The Seniors Ministry Team leads the congregation in encouraging the continued involvement of seniors in the ministry of Christ’s kingdom and in offering Christian love and care to those experiencing the joys and concerns of senior living.

Of particular concern to Seniors Ministry at Mount Vernon are the following:

Providing social opportunities for seniors in the church and surrounding community, with special emphasis on social opportunities that bring seniors together with other age groups such as children and youth

Offering opportunities for Christian growth which are particularly relevant to the life concerns, interests, and needs of senior adults

Serving as a resource in assisting seniors with certain practical issues of aging, such as issues related to the health, emotional, and financial dimensions of aging

Promoting the classes and services offered by PALS (Perimeter Adult Learning and Services), an ecumenical organization of which Mount Vernon is a sponsoring congregation.

Activities have included a trip to Callaway Gardens, a tour of the Fox Theater and the Governor's Mansion, a program at Clairmont Presbyterian Church on “Safe and Sound: Guarding against Abuse, Scams, Fraud, and Identity Theft", and several pot luck dinners.
