Ministry Teams of Session

The session is the governing body of a local congregation in the Presbyterian Church. The session consists of elders elected annually by the congregation. At Mt. Vernon the session is organized into thirteen ministry teams to carry out our mission. These teams are led by elders and staffed with church members. The ministry teams are:

Administration and Finance
The Administration and Finance Ministry Team ensures that we are tending to the needs of all our ministries by providing active leadership in balancing the full utilization of staff, volunteers, programs, and facilities. This is done through the oversight of the MVPC staff, finances and office effectiveness, including the administration and management of all legal contracts.

Adult
The Adult Ministry Team provides opportunities for Christian nurture and fellowship for adults. In doing so, we seek to strengthen the ties that bind us — our relationship with Jesus Christ and our friendship with one another.

Children
The Children’s Ministry Team seeks to nurture infants through fifth graders by providing opportunities for them to learn and grow spiritually in a fun and loving environment. We provide Sunday school, fellowship opportunities, music, worship education, special events, and more.

Congregational Care
Mt. Vernon is a caring congregation, and the Congregational Care Ministry Team seeks to promote our Christian care for one another. We provide ministries of caring, offer support and services to members with particular needs, and reach out to members with prolonged absences from worship and church activities.

Intergenerational
The Intergenerational Ministry Team plans and executes events for all ages (usually
involving food!) ranging from church-wide suppers featuring classes and entertainment, to receptions and retreats. We also oversee recreation, such as golf outings and programs of basketball, softball, and indoor soccer.

Outreach
Feeding the homeless at soup kitchens and assisting people who find themselves in sudden economic reversal are but two examples of what we do locally through our outreach ministries. This team coordinates our compassionate response to community and global needs.

Property
The Property Ministry Team has the responsibility of facility and grounds usage, upkeep, and short-and long-term maintenance.

Seniors
The Seniors Ministry Team focuses on those in our congregation and community who consider themselves to be “seniors.” We encourage the continued involvement of seniors in the ministry of Christ’s kingdom and offer our Christian love and care to those experiencing the joys and concerns of senior living.

Stewardship

The Stewardship Ministry Team strengthens and supports the congregation in its role as God's stewards of time, talent and treasure. Stewardship education, volunteer coordination (time and talents), regular reporting and communication, and the leadership of our fall stewardship campaign (treasure) provide year-round activities for this ministry team.

Strategic Planning
The Strategic Planning Ministry Team is focused on strategic initiatives which help Mt. Vernon fulfil its mission. This team’s goal is to think creatively with regard to how we are organized and the initiatives we undertake.

Witness
Christians are entrusted with the Good News of God’s love and commissioned to share it with others. This team informs the community about the opportunities to grow together in faith, and works to make MVPC a welcoming and hospitable place. We encourage our members to share with others their warmth and excitement and to invite them to journey with us.

Worship
The Worship Ministry Team works with the pastoral staff in planning meaningful worship experiences, including Sunday worship, weddings, funerals, and seasonal worship services.

Youth
The Youth Ministry Team is dedicated to providing a safe and positive environment for our middle and high school students to learn about their faith; grow in that faith; serve the church, community, and world; and enjoy each other’s fellowship.
