Music at Mount Vernon

We would love to have any musicians lend their talents to enhance our worship and bring glory to God.  Opportunities for this ministry exist for all ages and interests.

Young Singers (ages 3 - 7)
Rehearses Sundays during Extended Session after Time with Children (beginning about 11:20 am) in Room 100.
Our youngest singers learn simple songs, often with hand motions.  They share their music at the 11:00 service about once a quarter.  Meg Christian, Lynn Fought, and Marie Packer lead this group.

Children’s Choir (age 5 – 5th grade)
Rehearses Sundays 10:30 – 10:55 am following Sunday school in Room 100.
Led by Ann Edmondson, Children’s Choir Director, this group learns traditionally hymns and fun songs about our faith.  Desk bells and kazoos are also played.  This group sings at the 11:00 service nearly every month September through May.

Handbell Choir (high school and up)
Rehearses 6:30 – 7:30 pm, Wednesdays in the sanctuary, Rally Day through May.
This group plays at the traditional service about every six weeks.  Newcomers are welcome!  Kathy Clark is the director.

Adult Choir (high school and up)

Rehearses 7:30 – 9:30 pm, Wednesdays in the choir room, Rally Day through May.
The choir sings weekly at the 11:00 am traditional service and is directed by Jim Wingate, Minster of Music/Organist.  The choral repertoire includes an eclectic choice of music.  Twice a year (Advent and springtime), the choir prepares a cantata.  Click here for a current schedule.  The unique position of the choir, slightly elevated in the center of the nave, wonderfully supports congregational singing and downplays the impression that the choir is there to perform for the congregation.  Everyone is welcome.  No auditions.

Summer Choir (high school and up)
Rehearses 10:30 am, Sundays in the sanctuary, June until Rally Day.
The summer choir welcomes any member of the congregation who would like to join us. We rehearse the service music for the half hour prior to the 11:00 am service.  If you enjoy singing please sing with us each Sunday!

Praise Band (high school and up)
Rehearses 8:00 – 10:00 am, Saturdays in Fellowship Hall.
The Praise Band, directed by Sherri Dyson, Informal Worship Music Leader, plays for First Cup, our informal worship service at 9:00 am on Sundays.  The band welcomes instrumentalists (bass, guitar, drums, keyboard, etc) and vocalists who are willing to commit to this important and uplifting ministry.  We also can use musicians willing to play on an occasional basis.

Soloists and Instrumentalists
If you are willing to sing a solo or play an instrument during a worship service, we would love to hear about it!  Please contact:
Jim Wingate, Minister of Music/Organist for the traditional service
Sherri Dyson, Informal Worship Music Leader for the informal service
