11:00 Worship Service
You are cordially invited to join us for worship, held every Sunday at 11:00 am in our sanctuary. While this service is traditional in its setting and liturgy, we hope to strike a balance between reverence and relevance. Our sanctuary is a wonderful worship space which contains both modern and time-honored elements. See Christian Symbolism at Mount Vernon.
The service has a printed bulletin to help you follow the liturgy. Our liturgy is typical of churches in the Reformed (or Presbyterian) tradition and rooted in the practices of ancient Christianity. With language that is both old and new, we speak to and about God in our midst. We sing hymns from the blue Presbyterian Hymnal accompanied by pipe organ. Our adult choir has a repertoire that ranges from classical anthems, to spirituals, to modern compositions. Occasionally music is provided by our handbell choir, children’s choir, young singers, and instrumentalists. Sermons are usually preached from the pulpit, but sometimes they are presented from the chancel floor or by a drama ensemble. On the first Sunday of the month, we celebrate the Eucharist (the Lord’s Supper or Communion). All believers are invited to participate.
We welcome persons of all ages. The service includes a “Time with Children” component where children are invited forward for a short lesson related to the scripture or season and a prayer. For those families who desire it, childcare is available for infants through first graders for the entire service or the time remaining after the “Time with Children.” We welcome people from all backgrounds—Christians of all denominations, people of faith from throughout the world, people who profess no faith, and those who are searching for religious and spiritual meaning. We would love to welcome you!
We also offer special services on Ash Wednesday at the beginning of Lent, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve, as well as other occasions. An Easter Sunrise Service is held on the patio.
PS Please note, we also offer First Cup Communion Worship and Fellowship in the Fellowship Hall at 9:00 am.
